Air America Service History: The aircraft was bought at a price of $475,000 in Aug-1972. The registration was requested on 18-Aug-1972 and officially registered to Air America on 25-Sep-1972. It was fitted with APQ-115 terrain-following radar and initially painted in regular blue/white/black colour. It arrived at Udorn. Thailand on 10 September 1972 and flew standard resupply sorties by day and Special Project drops by night operating out of PS-44 north of Pakse. It acted as an airborne command post during the wiretap mission to Vinh, North Vietnam, on 06 & 07 Dec-1972. Special flight permits for overload flights for special purpose missions were requested on 30 –Jan-1973. It received battle damage over Laos on 09-Feb-1973 and was repaired at Udorn on 19-Feb-1973. . It was then assigned to contract F04606-71-C-0002 for use out of Vientiane between 16 and 30 Apr-1973 and then assigned to contract F04606-71-C-0002 for use out of Udorn between 01 Nov and 31-Dec-1973 and 01-Apr and 31-May-1974. In dark night colors. (There is a photo taken at Vientiane in March 74 in this scheme), it flew Udorn-Pitt’s Camp (T-603)-Udorn on 28-Apr-1974 and was later stored at Tainan from March-1975.

Subsequent history: Its departure from Thailand to the Continental US was scheduled for 27-Mar-1975 and staged through Air Asia at Tainan, where it was painted all white and was at Tainan between 15-Jun-1975 and 09-Sep-1975. It was then ferried to Roswell NM between 09 and 26-Sep-1975. Its sale was agreed to Omni Aircraft Sales, Washington DC, for $275,000 according to the Sales Agreement of 13-Nov-1975, and finalised to Omni Aircraft Sales, Washington, DC on 02-Feb-1976. Deregistration from Air America was requested on 06-Feb-1976.

• N6868 Returned to Omni Aircraft Sales, Washington, D., Regd 02-Feb-1976. Canx 11-Jun-1976.

Arrived New Zealand via ship transport 20-Oct-1986 and departed Invercargill 12-Nov-1986 on delivery to Antarctica.

Flew via Nice, France – Southend, Glasgow, UK – Reykjavik, Iceland on return 10/11-Feb-1987 on return

Accident: 03-Sep-1987 Damaged in heavy landing at Jameson Land, Greenland; no further details; repairable and returned to service Arrived Calgary, AB 15-Oct-1987 for repairs
